NORTHERN ARIZONA

Road trip to the world's most beautiful landscapes

THE RUGGED BEAUTY OF 'GOD'S HOME'

Our bright pink jeep teetered on the rim of a near-vertical rockface. I somehow expected our manic driver would now reverse and take us back to safety. But of course he didn’t.

The engine roared. The girls next to me squealed. And over we went. The back of the jeep – and all of us in it – was hoisted aloft like the end of a see-saw as we inched downwards. I was now no longer able to contain my own squeals.

“There’s no weepin’ in jeepin’!” our driver, Roger, hollered with a wicked grin, before continuing to effuse anecdotes, jokes and facts, as if he wasn’t driving down a 70-degree incline.

PHOENIX

Inside Arizona's blazing capital

Sunday Mirror, Express, People

THE HEAT IS ON

Wearing jeans and a T-shirt, I stepped out into the busy streets of Downtown Phoenix, Arizona, ready to embrace the world’s sunniest city. It was off the back of its hottest and driest summer ever, so I thought I’d be sufficiently dressed. But then a strange thing happened. It turned cold and started to rain.

The locals seemed equally surprised. People walking chirpily out of bars and restaurants were stunned by the chill wind and the strange wet stuff falling from the sky, quickly huddling together or rushing back inside, squealing.
